About the Tahunanui Community Centre
A vibrant community hub that assists Tahunanui to thrive.
Connecting local people, supporting life-long learning, and being a catalyst for positive locally-led action and change.
The Tahunanui Community Centre is a registered charity number CC36240
The Tahunanui Community Centre opened in 1987 to meet the need for a local playgroup. Since then it has moved and grown, changed and developed into today's busy, active community hub, with a separate preschool/playgroup building, a community hall, kitchen and meeting room.
Our aim is to provide a supportive and respectful environment to connect people of all ages, build positive relationships, and promote well-being and resilience. There are also lots of fun activities to join.
The community centre runs community events, and twice weekly food to redistribute to those in need.
The Tahunanui Community Centre hosts: preschool, playgroup, family sewing classes, free counselling, a garden group, a walking group, book groups, family events, family support, food distribution, and community gardens, with more activities added all the time.
Please go to our events and activities page for the latest timetable.
The community centre hall, meeting room and facilities can be hired.
The Hall is 7 x 15 metres with 100 Stacking Chairs. Up to 100 people can be accommodated in the hall.
The Meeting Room is 4 x 7 metres, and has the following features: carpeted floors, chairs, tables, and a fixed blackboard. There is seating space for 20.
The preschool meeting room is also bookable for small groups.
The facilities are available all year round; except for two weeks shut down over the Christmas holiday period, bookings are generally done to coincide with the school term.
We may charge a refundable bond of $50 for cleaning or damage during your let. Changes to fees may be negotiated, at the discretion of the Centre Manager.
NOTE: Access to Kitchen and Toilet facilities is included in any booking. There may be more than one group with access to these facilities at any time.
